LETTER: More music recognition in Squamish's Reader's Choice Awards

I have lived in Squamish for eight years. Six out of the eight years I have been humbled by being our town’s selection to win the Reader’s Choice award for best musician. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.

I have lived in Squamish for eight years.

Six out of the eight years I have been humbled by being our town’s selection to win the Reader’s Choice award for best musician. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a great deal to me and I don’t take it for granted. I look forward to hanging it on my wall with the others with pride.

I feel that these awards leave out categories for other aspects of music in our town. There should be other categories for things like Best DJ, Best Band, and Best Music Teacher.

An individual award isn’t enough to really showcase the amazing amount of talent we have in our community, which has continually been growing since I arrived here.

Although I understand that the awards are put on by the ads and sales team of The Chief, and us artists aren’t always the most likely candidates to purchase ads, if something is going to be done it should be done right and our local arts should be embraced and celebrated by the paper.

Congratulations to all who won awards. My only hope is that next year we have a couple more categories to celebrate our diverse and growing arts culture. Again, thank you to everyone for your continued support, this year especially, it means a lot.
