LETTER: No to Squamish Canyon

I am opposed to rezoning the current Groundwater Protection Zone (P-6) to a Comprehensive Development Zone 96 (CD-96) for Squamish Canyon.

We built and commissioned the Mashiter Creek drinking water intake in 1990. In 1997, we rebuilt the Stawamus Creek weir and intake structure.

These open creek drinking water sources are susceptible to contamination and are only used during emergency demand. Due to Squamish population growth and increased water demand, Power House Springs was developed. We installed well pumps 2, 3, and 4.

This unique groundwater infiltration zone is crisscrossed by motorized dirt bike trails (as sanctioned by the District). The main motorized access trail #548 is within less than 100 meters from well #6! Unleashed dogs run freely around the well site and leave deposits behind (despite recently installed incomplete fences).

Do we need even more human activity in our drinking water source? Of course not!
