LETTER: Scholarships needed for youth

Editor’s note: The following is one of the letters from the students in Whitney Keyes’ class at Don Ross Middle School. I believe that there should be way more opportunities and scholarships for youth and children in the arts in Squamish.

I believe that there should be way more opportunities and scholarships for youth and children in the arts in Squamish.
There hasn’t been really any chances for dancers like me or musicians, and there are a lot of families in Squamish who can’t afford to let their kids sing or dance.

These scholarships could also help kids get out of trouble and help boost their self-esteem. And dance is a way to keep healthy and fit.
Private lessons and dance classes can cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars for one to two classes. Also, costume fees and travel to competitions or auditions add to the cost.

And those are some of the reasons why I think we need scholarships for dancers like me!
