Local athlete Marc Nering saw the silver lining when he was at the International Powerlifting Federation’s World Powerlifting Championship at the beginning of June.

Nering, 54, managed to capture a silver medal in the Masters II 105-kilogram class in the bench press after lifting 353 pounds.

“Just qualifying for this event is a huge achievement due to the very high entrance requirements,” his wife, Betty, wrote to The Chief.

Three lifters tied at that weight, but Marc  won due to being the lightest lifter at weigh-in.
