Quest bids adieu to departing seniors

Osterling, Harpur, Lau and Colorado play final regular season home games

Quest University said goodbye on Feb. 22 to four graduating senior basketball players and for women's head coach Dany Charlery, it will be difficult to say farewell to three important members of his squad.

Charlery's first year at the school was also the first year for seniors Cassidy Osterling, Courtney Harpur and Cynthia Lau. The trio of players helped lead the women's team to its first-ever postseason appearance in 2011-'12 and were key members of this year's best regular season record ever.

Osterling capped a strong Pacwest career by winning the Pacwest player of the week last week and Charlery said she's been big for the team since returning from injury this year.

"Cassidy is so mature on the floor and has such a high IQ of the game," he said. "When she hits a three for us, it gives us so much energy and just fires everyone up."

Harpur has been a solid low-post presence for Quest throughout her tenure and Charlery said she's willing to do anything to help the team win.

"She's strong and has such a big heart," he said. "She's a little out of position for her height [5 feet, 9 inches] but she finds ways to make it work."

He said Lau has developed into a special player this season and has been a big reason for Quest's best-ever record of 16 wins and five losses.

"She's had a breakout year for us," he said. "She's really done a great job and done everything we've asked of her. We're really going to miss all three of them for their defence, offence and maturity. It was pretty emotional out there but it's good that we got a win for them in their last home game."

The lone graduating men's player is Quest sharpshooter Jose Colorado. The Kitchener native is the Kermodes' all-time leading scorer and has been a consistent offensive threat during his Pacwest career.

Colorado finished third in Pacwest scoring this season, averaging 19.2 points per game and he holds the Kermodes' team record for most points in a game with 43.

But it won't be Colorado's final appearance at the "Kermode Kave" as the Quest men's team will return to the Kave in March to challenge for the Nationals.
