Squamish climbers climbed up the ranks during the 2020 CEC Western Bouldering Youth Regionals in Calgary.

Three locals managed to place well enough to guarantee them spots on the upcoming CEC Youth Boulder Nationals in three weeks at The Hive in North Vancouver.

They are:

Owen McJannet, Youth B Boys - 8th

Cedar Pigeon, Youth B Girls - 7th

Annabelle McDonald, Youth B Girls - 10th

But the trio were not the only athletes who earned a respectable ranking during the competition.

Rory Wells, Youth C Boys - 17th

Winter Robichaud, Youth C Girls - 7th

Bouldering as a sport has seen a tremendous surge in popularity. It’s expected to be part of the upcoming 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, as one of three disciplines that climbers will be required to participate in.

The other two are speed climbing and lead climbing.
