Squamish women lead the Way in Business: Sara Constantin

Sara Constantin didn’t originally dream of running a large dance studio – she was a dance teacher who opened it for her students when an existing program shut down.

Parents and children looked to Constantin for a solution, and she delivered. Squamish Dance Centre opened in January of 2016 with a leap of faith, the support of dance families and Constantin’s dedication to her dancers.

“I had no money, no idea how to run a business, but the stars just aligned,” she says. “A large credit goes to our dance families, they’ve been incredibly committed, supportive and loyal.”

The dedicated studio space – which is expanding again this year – started with just 96 students and now boosts 380 students. Constantin is excited to see the continued growth and possibilities with the rapid development of Squamish.

People of all ages – from toddlers to seniors – are learning styles like ballet, jazz, tap, acro, contemporary, hip-hop, highland, aerial hoop, boys only classes and more.

The goals are always larger than memorizing steps or breaking a sweat.

“Confidence, time-management, teamwork, building self-esteem and much more. Our main goal is to develop dancers into amazing humans who contribute to our community and become successful in whatever they choose to do,” says Constantin.
