Northeast B.C. COVID-19 caseloads remain high, northern interior remains stable

School exposures also piling up in northeast part of region

Health officials in northeast B.C. continue to struggle to stop rapid COVID-19 transmission. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Health Service Delivery Area of Case Residence data, the northeast corner of the province recorded 140 infections from April 16-22, 2021. 

The northern interior, which includes Prince George, saw 61 new cases. The northwest added 34. 

Since January 2020, the northwest has seen 2,701 total cases followed by the northern interior with 2,312 and the northeast sits at 2,701. 

 Northeast B.C. also holds the majority of new school exposure events this month.

As of this publication, Northern Health has a recorded total of 6,976 cases since March 14, 2020, with 224 currently active. 

Twenty people are in hospitals across the region, eight of which are in critical care or ICU. 

The BCCDC says there have been 137 lives lost in the north to date.
