It’s hard to believe that 2020 is less than two months from coming to a close.

Amongst the craziness of the COVID-19 pandemic, the snap B.C. election and early snowfall, Prince George’s political leaders are hoping to prepare residents for what the new year may bring with the help of the local Chamber of Commerce (PGCC).

The PGCC has scheduled a new virtual online series next week, free to the public, entitled “2021: A Look Ahead.”

Four representatives for the city at the local, provincial and national levels of government are set to ‘zero in’ on topics they believe will be most critical, according to PGCC CEO Todd Corrigall.

“What we’re looking to accomplish is to speak about what occurred in 2020, but more importantly, what we can do to move forward in 2021,” he tells PrinceGeorgeMatters.

“So, we’re hoping this can help facilitate that.”

Corrigall says topics will largely centre around businesses and how local shopping will survive during the pandemic in play.

B.C. tallied several new COVID-19 records from Tuesday’s (Nov. 17) report, including 717 new cases in a 24-hour span, and 11 deaths, with Northern Health contributing 21 infections in setting its new regional record-high.

“Typically in a normal year, we host these on a quarterly basis,” added Corrigall in talking about the circumstances behind the virtual sessions.

“What we looked at this year is how [can] we close out 2020 with some positive views towards 2021. When we attach it to what we’re all experiencing right now, it's more important [...] I think the value we’re looking to provide is engaging.”

The daily speakers are, in chronological order, Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris and Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall.

“2021: A Look Ahead” takes place Nov. 23 to 26, from 12 to 1 p.m. each day.
