Prince George sees COVID-19 cases drop in latest seven-day data report

There's good news in Prince George: COVID-19 cases are dropping. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence data, Prince George saw 46 cases from April 11-17, 2021.

That's just more than half of what was accumulated from April 4-10, 2021, when there were 70 new infections recorded in the area. 

The data is released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

The north isn't without struggles though as Peace River North and Peace River South is seeing rapid transmission, as well as a flurry of school exposure alerts. 

Peace River North saw 61 cases from April 11-17, 2021, while 76 were detected in Peace River South during the same timeframe. 

With school exposure notices piling up, an up-to-date list of northern B.C. schools marked for COVID-19 exposure events in the month of April is as follows:

As of this publication (April 22), Northern Health has a recorded total of 6,895 cases since March 2020, with 223 cases currently active. 

The BCCDC says 20 people are hospitalized across the region, nine of which are in critical care or ICU. 

A total of 136 lives have been lost in the north due to the virus. 

B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix are scheduled to give a live briefing at 1 p.m. this afternoon.
