They say the officer tried to pull over a black sedan on 82 Avenue near 128 Street at about 8:55 p.m. But when the officer turned on the cruiser's emergency lights, the sedan driver reached outside and fired two gunshots at the Mountie.

The officer is said to have followed the sedan for a short distance before ending the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with dashcam footage related to the shooting to contact Surrey RCMP.

Anyone who sees the suspect vehicle is urged not to approach it, and call 911 immediately, as the driver is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The public is being advised of an increased police presence in the area, with the Surrey Gang Enforcement Team also working the case.
