Vancouver Island contestants to compete on new season of The Amazing Race Canada

Two couples — one from Courtenay and one from Comox Valley — are among 10 teams competing for the show’s top prize, including $250,000 in cash, a trip around the world, and two new vehicles.

Four contestants from Vancouver Island will be in the mix tonight when the ninth season of The Amazing Race Canada premieres at 9 p.m. on CTV.

Courtenay husband-and-wife team Allie Seller, 48, and Eddie Parinas, 52, and dating Comox Valley couple Tyler Turner, 35, and Kayleen VanderRee, 31, are among the 10 teams competing for top prize in the show, which includes $250,000 in cash, a trip around the world, and two new vehicles.

VanderRee is a commercial scuba diver, while Turner, a bilateral below-the-knee amputee, won Canada’s first-ever bronze and gold medals in snowboarding at the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Seller and Parinas have five children between them and work as health, fitness, and business coaches.

Other contestants on the show includes pro wrestlers, drag queens, and YouTube stars.

The popular show is hosted by Victoria-based Jon Montgomery, a Manitoban who won a gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics. According to CTV, The Amazing Race Canada was the top Canadian TV program in 2021-22, with a season average of 1.6 million viewers.

The Amazing Race Canada airs at 9 p.m. CTV every Tuesday through mid-September.
