Annual event has something for everyone

The Brackendale Fall Fair is turning 20 and the whole community is invited to the party.

It all gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 6) and the fair promises to have a little bit for everyone.

Live music, farm animals, hayrides, mini golf and the ever-popular zucchini races are just a few of the many activities that the entire family can enjoy.

A total of 75 vendors will be all over the grounds at the Brackendale Farmers Institute Park until 5 p.m. with all sorts of goods and services.

Vendors will be dressed in some of the finest fashions from 1914, in recognition of the 100th anniversary of our town’s name change from Newport to Squamish.

Food is also a big part of the fair, with many different types of dishes to sample, plus bakers, vegetable growers and crafters going head to head in the fair’s community competition. The contests cover everything from herbs to home baking to the arts.

Live music will be ongoing throughout the fair and is hosted by local musician Cam Salay. Some of the artists performing will be Carolyn Grass, Emily Ashcroft, Cameron Larson, Michael Kilby, The Overcomers, Brackendale Band, Annie Borch, Aaron Feicht, and Rita and Ray.

Event organizers ask that all attendees leave their dogs at home for the fair.

Squamish residents who want to snag the best deals at the fair will have to make plans early if they wish to drive, as many east-west crossings of Highway 99 will be closed for most of the morning due to the GranFondo event. It’s expected that roads will be open to cross Highway 99 by 11 a.m., but some delays are to be expected.

Fair-goers can also ride their bicycles to Brackendale, as the GranFondo will not impact bike lanes and bike overpasses. For more info visit www.brackendalefallfair.ca.
