The Chief has compiled all you need to know to get through to the new year.

If you are looking to celebrate New Year's Eve, Squamish has plenty to offer.

A-FRAME Brewing Company is hosting "Newfie New Years 2020" (don't write to us, that is what they are calling it!).

You can "Sing in The New Year" on New Year's Eve at Backcountry Brewing.

The Howe Sound Brew Pub is hosting "New Year’s Eve with The Whiskeydicks."

Match Eatery & Public House is throwing "Dance Through the Decades" with live music from Quickness and DJ Fillin.

At Norman Rudy's NYE House Party you can take in DJ Sean K.

Valleycliffe's The Backyard and MrVanDigital are hosting “Backyards New Years Eve Party.” Come prepared to dance.

The KnottyBurl, The Goat and Crash Hotel Squamish are teaming up to bring you "The Knotty Goat NYE Wonderland 2020" party with a host of artists.

If you want to head north, here’s what is up in Whistler.

An early New Year’s event for the kids could be a trip to the Britannia Mine Museum, which is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m..

It is looking like a wet New Year's Day down at Newport Beach for the annual Polar Bear Swim (hint, hint, see you at noon, Squamish).

While Environment Canada is forcasting snow or rain on Saturday, for the rest of the week, liquid sunshine is set to dominate. Temperatures will hover between 3 and 5C through Thursday, Jan. 2.

 

What is open and closed on Jan. 1

It is sometimes hard to know what is going to be open on the holidays in Squamish.

Most municipal operations are closed Jan. 1, including the Squamish Public Library, The 55 Activity Centre and the Landfill.

Basecamp at the Sea to Sky Gondola is closed.

Garbage pickup scheduled for Jan. 1 moves to Jan. 2.

Jan. 1 transit service will run as Sunday service.

 

What do I do with the kids?

For Jan. 1, Brennan Park Recreation Centre is open 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Airhouse is open for various drop-in sessions.

The Ninja Gym is open noon to 6 p.m.

The Brackendale Art Gallery is open Noon to 5 p.m. or by appointment (Call 604-898-3333).

 

Need groceries?

Save On Foods is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1, but the pharmacy is closed.

Hector’s Your Independent Grocer is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Nesters is closed New Year's Day.

Shoppers Drug Mart is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

London Drugs is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the pharmacy open until 6 p.m.
