It will mean more students can enjoy the overnight, outdoor experience.
The Cheakamus Centre is going to undergo further accessibility upgrades thanks to a $20,000 injection from the Rick Hansen Foundation.
The funds provided to the Cheakamus Foundation for Environmental Learning will be used toward modifications to student cabins, according to a news release from the foundation.
The centre, which is owned by the North Vancouver School district, was founded in 1969 and provides Indigenous cultural education on Squamish Nation territory in Paradise Valley. More than 15,000 visitors a year come to the centre.
“It’s been a privilege for our team to work with the Rick Hansen Foundation on this program. We’re excited to be able to take additional steps to improve accessibility in our cabins,” said Cathy Jenkins, project manager for campus renewal at Cheakamus Centre, in the release.
