Hey, Squamish homeowners — want to be on TV?

HGTV Canada’s home renovation series Worst to First is now casting homeowners and buyers in Squamish for its second season.

The series sees professional contractors Sebastian Sevallo and Mickey Fabbiano “take on the challenge of transforming the most undesirable house on the block into a beautiful forever home," according to a news release about the program.

“This duo thrives on the challenge of transforming fixer-uppers into the envy of the neighbourhood.”

Thomas Hunt, series showrunner — the person who has overall creative authority and management responsibility for the show — said it is Squamish’s natural beauty that makes the district an excellent fit for the series.

“My sense is that in Squamish people love where they live and it is so beautiful, that is really great for our show, which is seen in, I think, 57 countries. It is really nice to capture some of those beautiful scenics,” Hunt said. “We really do live in a pretty beautiful part of the world, and I think that is pretty appealing to people who don’t live here.”

Homeowners looking to renovate or people currently shopping for a home in the Squamish area can apply for a chance to be on the show. Applicants chosen to appear in season two will be provided with design services and a renovation that takes about six weeks.

To qualify, homeowners must be buying or renovating a “fixer-upper” property and have a minimum renovation and design budget of about $100,000.

The show will contribute approximately $40,000 in cash and in-kind services toward labour and materials for the reno.

“What our show is really good at is helping younger families, with a couple kids,” Hunt said, adding because much of the worry and decision-making is taken on by the show, it is a much faster and more efficient process for the homeowner than a usual renovation, which can take months, rather than weeks.

Candidates should be energetic, enthusiastic, and keen to be on camera for approximately five to six days for filming over a five or six week period.

They also must be available periodically for on-camera interviews as the renovation progresses starting this month until January 2019.

Eligible applicants will receive further details upon approval.
