Our friend Rick Morgan passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2014.

Rick was born and lived his whole life in British Columbia, but when he and his wife Cheri moved to Squamish eight years ago he felt he had found his home. He loved the community, the nature and especially the music friends he found here.  Rick was a valued employee in the lumber industry...he also enjoyed hosting dinner parties and loved fishing for relaxation, but his great passion was music.  He had a beautiful, big voice and a gentle way with the guitar. He showed up at all the jams and any gig he could find. He was an encouraging, sharing kind of musician; he helped find instruments for many novice players in our close community, kids and teenagers and adults alike.

Rick was very excited about the new gondola coming to Squamish and was quick to tell us that we would be witnessing an historic event.  He had offered his music services to be a part of the grand opening but, sadly, he will not be joining us on this day.

Several weeks before he passed, Rick had been struck with a sudden burst of creativity and  compiled three new songs, “Let's Play”, “You Not Me” and “Gramma's Pie”. Others written since his move here include “Brackendale Lament”, “ Searching” and “Hwy 99 Blues”. On May 16, this opening day of the Sea to Sky Gondola, The Squamtones will be joined by several local musicians and friends of Rick as we play a selection of his songs and some of his old favourites.  We are proud to be joined together in the spirit of a great musician and friend.  Thank you for the opportunity.
