Coronavirus cases drop to 23 in Howe Sound region

97% of those eligible have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine: BC Centre for Disease Control.

Howe Sound’s COVID-19 case count is trending in the right direction. 

The region’s COVID-19 case count dropped to 23 for the week Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, according to data released on Nov. 10 by the BC Centre for Disease Control.

The region encapsulates Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, and parts of the southern Stl’atl’mx Nation. 

No stats have ever been made available for Squamish or other smaller communities.

This is the lowest weekly case count since Aug. 21, when there were 16 positive cases.

For the week Oct. 24 to 30, the region had 43 positive cases. 

The week prior, Oct. 17 to 23, there were 42 cases. 

Oct. 10 to 16, there were 43.

At its height, Howe Sound saw more than 400 positive cases in the week of March 28, 2021. 

From January 2020 to October 2021, Howe Sound tallied 3,301 positive cases.

As of Nov. 9, 97% of those eligible in the Howe Sound region have received their first COVID-19 vaccine; 91% have received their second dose. 

Currently, for the Sea to Sky school district, only Squamish Elementary School is listed on the Vancouver Coastal Health possible COVID-19 school exposure list. 

Dates of potential exposure are: Oct. 1, Oct. 4 to 8, Oct. 12 to 13, Oct. 18 to 19 Oct. 21 and Oct. 25 to 27.

The next update will be released by the BC Centre for Disease Control on Nov. 17.
