An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared over at another North Shore care home.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the outbreak of the virus at Amica’s Edgemont retirement home was declared over June 1.

The outbreak started at the seniors’ home April 4.

Three residents of the care home died of COVID-19 during the outbreak, including a long-married couple in their 90s who were self-isolating together after testing positive for the virus, and a man remembered for his love of music.

During the outbreak at Amica, a total of nine residents of the care home and 10 staff who worked there tested positive for the virus, according to the Ministry of Health.

Some of those cases were discovered among residents following a mass testing of over 100 residents and 95 staff members at the facility. About half of those who tested positive weren’t showing any symptoms at the time.

The ending of the outbreak at Amica came just days after an outbreak at Evergreen House – which had only involved one positive test of a staff member – was also declared over.

The North Shore’s deadliest care home outbreak, at Lynn Valley Care Centre – which claimed the lives of 20 elderly residents – was declared over at the beginning of May, after a two-month battle with the virus.

An outbreak at North Vancouver’s Lions Gate Hospital – which killed nine of the 16 patients who caught the virus – was declared over May 22.

Earlier outbreaks at North Shore care homes, including Hollyburn House and Inglewood Care Centre, have also been declared over.

Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver is now the only long-term care home on the North Shore that is still awaiting the all clear.

Outbreaks are considered over if no new cases have been discovered at those facilities in the past 28 days, or two incubation periods.

Berkley has had a total of 12 residents and 13 staff test positive during its outbreak, according to the Ministry of Health. Five residents have died, including another long-married couple who died within 37 hours of each other.
