Social media election seminar set

Declared and potential candidates in the upcoming municipal election are being invited to a seminar to help them make better use of the online tools available to them during the campaign.

Declared and potential candidates in the upcoming municipal election are being invited to a seminar to help them make better use of the online tools available to them during the campaign.

The seminar, sponsored by the Squamish Chamber of Commerce in partnership with online and print media partners, takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Squamish Adventure Centre theatre. Admission is free.

The purpose of the event is to introduce candidates to Vote Squamish: Election 2011 on www.mysquamish.com and the award-winning Tiipz.com application. The Chief's online (www.squamishchief.com) and print editions are also partners in providing a full range of coverage leading up to the Nov. 19 election.

"Tiipz is proud to be an active part of the Squamish community and we are excited to offer something to the municipal election process," Jason Cyr, Tiipz.com CEO, said in a statement. "Hopefully by bringing together the candidates and potential candidates we will be able to explain how best to use Tiipz and Facebook as a means of engaging our community in conversation around election issues. Squamish has a very young, tech-savvy demographic that will surely embrace the use of these communications channels."
