For 31 years Uffe Hansen didn't have much extra time on his hands. He was a volunteer captain with Squamish Fire and Rescue, while spending his daylight hours into his job as a manager for Telus in Sea to Sky Corridor. But that's all changed. The Squamish resident of 32 years is now retired and ready to jump into his next venture politics."I've been interested in politics since I was young," Hansen said, who is running for council in the upcoming election. What he brings to the table is a willingness to listen and an open mind, he said. As for Squamish's Oceanfront development, economic growth and job creation, these topics need to be examined carefully before the community moves to solutions, Hansen said.Hansen candidly admits he has no "crystal ball" when it comes to solutions to Squamish's issues, such as housing affordability and boosting the economy, but he said is determined to find them."I just want to get involved and do the best for Squamish," Hansen said.Ever since he arrived in Squamish, Hansen said he knew it was the place for him. The people were friendly and it was a small enough town that you knew most of them. Now volunteering at the Squamish Valley Golf Course, Hansen's life is buzzing with his four grown-up children and three stepchildren. He's also kept busy caring for his two dogs, four cats and multiple aquariums. Squamish is a good place, Hansen said, a community he hopes to contribute to."I am honest and straightforward and want to be involved," he said.
