HALIFAX — A wildfire about one-third of a kilometre in size on the western outskirts of Halifax continues to burn out of control.
Firefighters said Wednesday they were taking advantage of low wind and foggy conditions through the morning to battle the flames, which erupted Tuesday afternoon.
Local officials ordered the evacuation of three businesses in the Bayers Lake business park on Wednesday morning, after ordering the closure of a hardware store and restaurant the day before.
An outpatient clinic in the Susies Lake area also remained closed Wednesday.
The Department of Natural Resources has assigned 30 firefighters to the scene.
The department said there was a short window of favourable foggy conditions for firefighters to attack the blaze but weather was getting hotter and temperatures were expected to climb to a high of 27 C in the afternoon.
