On August 27, BC Highway Patrol Dawson Creek were conducting enforcement patrols South of Dawson Creek, on highway 2 near Tomslake when an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
With the use of his radar, the officer confirmed the vehicle to be travelling at a speed of 188km/hr in the posted 100km/hr zone while the driver was talking on the phone, with two children in the vehicle.
Almost twice the posted speed limit,
says Cst. Matthew MacCallum of the BC Highway Patrol unit.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 36-year-old Fort St John resident was identified and arrested. Criminal Code charges of dangerous driving are being recommended to Crown Counsel in the matter.
BC Highway Patrol Dawson Creek would like to remind the motoring public to slow down and follow the rules of the road. The actions of this driver were reckless and dangerous and could have resulted in serious injury or fatality.
