Friday afternoon and evening Bowen ferry sailings cancelled

The 2:55 pm BC Ferries sailing will be the last to leave Bowen today
Queen of Capilano in Horseshoe Bay

More than a dozen BC Ferries sailings between Bowen Island and Horseshoe Bay have been cancelled this afternoon and evening.

The 2:20 pm ferry will be the last to come to Bowen from the mainland, and the 2:55 pm sailing will be the last one off the island. Beginning with the scheduled 3:30 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay, until the 10:30 pm sailing leaving Snug Cove, 14 sailings are being cancelled in all.

In a release on their website, BC Ferries said they could not secure the required number of crew to operate the Queen of Capilano. The company says a minimum number of crew are necessary in case of an emergency and to comply with regulations from Transport Canada.

A pair of 12 passenger water taxis will be following the schedule of the cancelled sailings. Travelling via this method will be free.
