The B.C. Supreme Court judge-alone trial of Kevin Christopher Webster, accused of second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Moirin Gladys Webster, is set for May 2022.

A Gibsons man charged with second-degree murder in his mother’s death has chosen to have his case heard by a judge alone.

Kevin Christopher Webster's other option was to have his trial before a judge and jury.

On Dec. 27, 2020, RCMP officers discovered the body of Webster's mother, Moirin Gladys Webster, in her home on Sargent Road. Injuries were “consistent with homicide,” according to an Integrated Homicide Investigation Team statement.

Webster, 32, was arrested at the scene, police said.

Moirin was well known in the Gibsons church-going community. She had been a congregant with Christ the King Church, where she had taught Sunday school, ran children’s programming and attended prayer groups.

The case is set to be heard next spring (May 2 to 10).

“Sound good to you?” the judge asked Webster Wednesday, as he appeared by video.

“Yeah,” he said.

He remains in custody.
