Take a break from the sweltering summer sun and explore a new immersive event dedicated to the life and work of artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci.

The Da Vinci Experience is a global exhibit that has landed in Metro Vancouver, marking its first foray into North America, and is doing a summer run south of the city at the Tsawwassen Mills mall on Tsawwassen First Nation land.

Featuring replicas of some of Da Vinci's incredible inventions as well as several representations of his famous works of art, the exhibit is billed as a "sensory experience" that immerses you in the realm of the Italian polymath of the High Renaissance.

Oh, and you can also pose with a replica of his famous painting, the "Mona Lisa."

Curated by Dr. Roberta Barsanti, director of Italy's Leonardian Museum in Vinci, the Da Vinci experience occupies a 4,000-square-foot space at the mall and allows visitors to walk through a room outfitted with 360-degree projections of the artist and inventor's works.

Here you'll sit down and take in floor to ceiling projections of his drawings, paintings, and machinery. Even the floor is alight with something to look at during the 30-minute looped presentation, which guests can enter or exit at any time.

The exhibit also features one room packed with inventions and artwork and explanations, as well as a room dedicated to breaking down key elements of his renowned painting "The Last Supper."

Guests can also check out a Virtual Reality experience at the end, which young folks - and the young at heart - will really love. Get a real inside, 360 view from inside Da Vinci's own studio.

The event was first produced in Florence, Italy by Crossmedia Group, which has done multiple immersive artist exhibits including shows featuring Magritte, Klimt, and Van Gogh.

V.I.A. and the Da Vinci Experience acknowledge that the event takes place on the traditional territory of the Tsawwassen and Musqueam First Nations and the Hun’qumi’num speaking people.
