An aircraft had to make a quick diversion and land in Vancouver after a mechanical issue.

Vancouver International Airport spokesperson Adriana Unger confirms a medevac flight en route to Whitehorse from Victoria requested a 'diversion' to YVR at 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Learjet 36 with Med Jets airline departed Victoria International Airport at 10:17 p.m.

Flight radar shows the aircraft flying over the Strait of Georgia, looping over Richmond near YVR and then doing a loop over North Delta. The aircraft then travelled toward Squamish, flying over Garibaldi Provincial Park, turning back and flying over Golden Ears Provincial Park.

"The aircraft landed safely and taxied to a hangar at YVR’s south terminal,” says Unger.

There was no impact on airport operations. It’s not clear how many people were on the flight.
