This photo was taken in Richmond in 1967

The first McDonald's outside the U.S. opened in Richmond in 1967.

More than five decades ago, the iconic golden arches of McDonald's expanded outside the U.S. for the first time and landed in Richmond.

The photo, taken in 1967, shows the first McDonald's in Canada located at No. 3 and Bennett Roads.

The original restaurant has since been demolished and rebuilt into a more modern iteration (with a double drive-thru!), but the golden arches have remained as a heritage item.
