More than 7,000 fridges recalled in Canada due to choking hazard. Here's what to do

More than 360,000 of them were sold in the U.S., while Health Canada says parts of the fridge's ice makers can break off and fall into the ice

More than 7,000 fridges sold in Canada and 360,000 in the U.S. have been recalled due to a choking hazard from the ice maker.

According to Health Canada, the products affected are Electrolux Frigidaire ice makers - in certain side-by-side refrigerators and Electrolux four-door refrigerators – were sold between April 2020 and March 2022 at the likes of Lowe’s, Home Depot and Canadian Appliance Source.

The federal authority says the ice maker’s ice level detector arm can potentially break into pieces and fall into the ice bucket, posing a choking hazard.

As of May 31, the company has received no reports of incidents in Canada, and no reports of injuries.

However, in the U.S., the company has received 185 reports of the ice level detector arm breaking and detached pieces falling into the ice and one report of injury.
