A person has been found dead after an explosive fire in Langley.

Police responded to a rural property near the 24300-block of 8 Avenue at 2:17 p.m. on Sunday and discovered an outbuilding on fire.

Firefighters with the Township of Langley Fire Department extinguished the fire and also found human remains inside the outbuilding.

Homicide investigators have taken over the case.

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, media relations officer with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), says the investigation is in the early stages.

"We are working with the Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit and Arson Unit to advance what’s now become a homicide investigation,” says Pierotti.

“Our investigators will continue to be in the area throughout the upcoming days, canvassing for witnesses and for residential CCTV footage.”

The BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section are also involved in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information who has yet to speak with police to contact IHIT (1-877-551-4448 or by email at [email protected]), or the Langley RCMP immediately.

Investigators are looking to speak to people who were driving in the area between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. They're also seeking dash camera video.
