Some local dart players are heading to Cloverdale for provincial competition.

This weekend, a team from the Squamish Legion will represent the Sea to Sky Corridor in the 2023 Legion Provincial Dart Tournament.

The team comprises Matthew Howells, Shelley Fraser, Joe Taylor and Jim Elliott.

According to team spokesperson April McIntyre, this is the first time in more than 10 years that Squamish has a team competing in the event.

Each year, all Legions across Canada have the opportunity to compete for a chance to play in the Provincial and Dominion Dart Tournaments, McIntyre said.

Locally, a tournament was held at the Squamish Legion on Jan. 29. Out of the top eight players from that tourney, two teams of four, two teams of two, and two singles teams were formed.

Then, on Feb. 26, the local legion hosted teams from North Vancouver and Pemberton for a Zones Playdown tournament.

Squamish's first team of four came out victorious and will play other teams from Legions across B.C. on Sunday, March 26, at the Cloverdale Legion.

A team from Pemberton will represent the Sea to Sky in the singles and doubles tournaments in Cloverdale.

Ryan Denbigh will represent in the singles competition.

For doubles, Ryan Denbigh and Mike Kellett will bring their Pemby pride.

"Let's hope they go on to play teams from across dat the end of April," McIntyre said.

If anyone would like to cheer on the teams in person, the event is open to the public at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, at the Cloverdale Legion (17567 57 Ave., Surrey).
