Annual fundraiser on Oct. 22

Pull on the lederhosen and break out the dirndl, it is time for Oktoberfest in Squamish.

The annual Squamish Montessori School fundraiser takes place at the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Oct. 22.

Highlights of the Oktoberfest event include Whistler band The Railtown Prophets playing live, a Bavarian Olympics – a stein holding contest – Alphorn karaoke, a yodelling contest, a best-dressed contest for those who don traditional wear and silent auction held in the Garibaldi Room.

Funds raised support activities at the school including music and art programs and field trips, according to organizers.

Last year the event raised more than $12,000 for the school.

The event began in 2011 as a way to raise more money for the school than the traditional methods, such as bake sales, and has been held every October since.

An online auction is already set up on Facebook at Squamish Oktoberfest On-Line Auction.

The events get underway at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Tickets are available at the school as well as at Howe Sound Brew Pub and Scotties liquor store or online at www.squamishoktoberfest2016.eventbrite.ca.
