Quest conference features popular science broadcaster, Jay Ingram

Remember science broadcaster and author Jay Ingram? For many of us, he made science fun and interesting on Discovery Channel Canada's Daily Planet.

Well, the iconic Canadian is headed to Squamish Friday to speak at Quest University’s Our Futures conference, which runs Feb. 23 and 24.

“Our goal is to facilitate an open exchange that includes students and members of the broader community,” says Valerie Fowles, executive director for the student-led conference in a news release. “We’ve chosen topics we believe are central to the future, such as climate change, individual identity, artificial intelligence, and genetics.”

Ingram is the keynote speaker at the conferences opening night to be held at the Cheakamus Centre. George Iwama, Quest’s president and vice- chancellor will also make a keynote speech at the centre.

The rest of the conference is on Quest’s campus and will include esteemed scientist discussing a variety of topics including:

*Renee Hlozek on the future of space exploration. Hlozek is a professor of astrophysics at the Dunlap Institute at the University of Toronto who studies a variety of problems in theoretical and observational cosmology through observations of the Cosmic Microwave

*Victoria Forster on leukemia and the devastating side effects of current therapies. Forster is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, researching new treatments for pediatric cancer.

*Ron Chrisley on the possibility of artificial consciousness. Director of the Centre for Cognitive Science at the University of Sussex, UK, Chrisley is also on the faculty of the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science.
