Airport opening its doors

Second annual Squamish Airport Community Day planned on Sunday

The Squamish Airport is inviting the community to come see what the facility is all about.

The second annual Squamish Airport Community Day is planned on Sunday (Aug. 26) and organizers hope to build on a solid debut last year.

"This is our second annual airport day and we are hoping for an even better turnout than last year, which was pretty awesome for the first year," said Collete Morin from Glacier Air. "This is a free event fun for families and anyone interested in what goes on at the airport."

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport in Brackendale, with several activities planned for the entire family. Aircrafts are scheduled to fly into the airport throughout the day, with a large number of planes on display. There will also be an Aircraft Show and Shine on site, with several different planes on display.

Squamish Ground Search and Rescue will be on hand with displays, along with the Air Cadets and information on the history of the airport in Squamish. Par-T-Perfect will make sure the kids are entertained with a bouncy castle, face painting and many more games and events.

There will also be special rates for airplane and helicopter flights, as well as live music and prizes. The Lions Club will provide food and refreshments with a concession on location.

Event organizers ask that all those attending leave their dogs at home. All the fun will take place at 46001 Government Rd. in Brackendale.
