Anthony hopes to help locals find their passions at first local Idea Party

What's your passion?

North Vancouver resident Joyanna Anthony wants you to help discover exactly what that passion may be and try her best to assist you in working towards that ultimate goal.

Anthony will bring her popular Idea Party to Squamish on Friday (April 26) and is hoping to pack Newport Market with people and dreams. Anthony said the concept comes from Barbara Sher's book Wishcraft, which was released in 1983 and helped people work toward their goals.

"The whole purpose of the book was to help people discover their passion and figure out what you really want to do your life," she said. "About 70 per cent of people don't have a clue what their passion is. Others may, but oftentimes they get married and have kids and never get to truly learn what their passion is."

Since the year 2000, Anthony has worked with people in Vancouver and Toronto and she said she enjoys the entire process.

"I get a thrill out of showing people how to connect," she said. "I'm known as the idea lady and am an expert at networking. If you want a connection, I can do it. I have so much fun showing people how to step into their greatness."

An Idea Party sees participants interact with others to brainstorm, troubleshoot challenges and make connections. Attendees are asked to share with the group what they want to accomplish, while the audience tries to help them out. Each speaker gets three minutes to share her or his story, with a scribe taking down all the suggestions and ideas.

"People need something to spark them and this night should spark them," she said. "There are so many people nowadays that are working, but not really loving what they're doing. It can be incredible to see what we can accomplish in a setting like this."

Anthony said she's seen a number of remarkable success stories during her time running the parties. She said a dress shop owner shared her desire to be a singer at a Toronto party and months later placed a CD featuring her music into Anthony's hand.

Anthony also hosts eight-session Success Team meetings, which are similar to the Idea Party concept, but usually involve a smaller group and are more comprehensive. She said that depending on the success of this initial Idea Party, there's potential for a Success Team to form in Squamish.

"I think out of this [Idea Party] that we will do another local one," she said. "People don't have to talk, they can just go and listen and you might become inspired."

She said the possibilities are endless.

"This is an opportunity to help people get in touch with their passions," she said. "Whether it's to write a book, make money online, it can be anything. Isolation is the dream killer so just invite everyone to come out, it should be a lot of fun."

The event takes place at the Newport Market on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. There is no admission charge but in lieu of admission, Anthony is asking attendees to purchase refreshments at the Newport Market.
