Norman Foote brings a must see line-up of legendary performers to the Brackendale Art Gallery on Nov.19th.

“It’s gospel, blues, and laughter, what’s not to like,” says Foote.

“And it’s at the Brackendale Art Gallery, where else?” Foote said he usually does a show a year at the BAG, but this year’s show, he explained, is an especially stellar line-up.

“I host it, and do my funny shtick, although it will be a little different than usual. We have B.C. Entertainment Hall of Famers, Bill Sample and Marcus Mosely performing, along with Darlene Ketchum.”

Foote says Bill Sample is considered one of Vancouver’s (and beyond) greatest performers, who is also an accomplished composer.

“Bill [Samples] was the musical director for David Foster for years, and he’s played with many, many different artists. We’ve toured together, we played in New York, Nashville, he’s just way beyond, a phenomenal musician. But we haven’t played together in a long time. But when I approached him to do this show, he signed up right away, which was great to see.”

The others (Darlene Ketchum and Marcus Mosely) play together a lot though. And we all just did a show at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, back in July. So I thought it would be great to bring it to Squamish.”

It will mark the first time Mosely plays at the BAG.

“You’ll find Marcus is one of Vancouver’s greatest treasures. He’s an amazing, powerful singer, plus he’s an incredible individual, he’s really the feature performer. He’s a singer, but also a storyteller and a passionate songwriter,” said Foote. He added that Mostly has a new CD out called Labour of Love.

Basically, this is an incredible group of musicians, with me thrown into the mix, it’s an interesting  combination,” said Foote with a laugh.

When asked what first-timer Mosely’s reaction to the rustic venue that is the BAG might be, Foote replies, “I think he’ll love the place. [Thor and Dorte] put a lot of love out, can’t say enough, about them.

It’s always a treat to play at the BAG. There are a lot of stories in those walls. It’s a legendary venue, so many artists have started there.  And it still brings artists here. When you look at the music community, there’s something about that place that people love, its a gem of a venue. When I was fifteen or sixteen, Thor was just building the BAG, I met him, and from then on, it was my dream was to play there growing up. So now I’m thrilled to come back, with this group.

To have them come up here a big thing.”

Norman Foote and Guests, play at the Brackendale Art Gallery Nov. 19, show at 8 p.m., tickets available at the door or at West Coast Chocolate XoCo, 38020 Cleveland Ave.
