Despite the cold November rain in Squamish, the kids still showed up.
A little bit of precipitation didn't dissuade youngsters from checking out the new digs at Stan Clarke Park during the park's re-opening on Saturday (Nov. 3) and Mayor Rob Kirkham said he's seen a steady flow of children at the park since the construction fences came down.
"Ever since they took the fences down, we've been able to look across and see a steady flow of kids coming to the park," Kirkham said, while addressing onlookers at the park's reopening. "It's just been a magnet for kids so far."
The half-million dollar park upgrade features a number of new amenities such as: a children's reading circle, a small climbing boulder, ornamental planting beds and a pedestrian spine that connects Second Avenue to Cleveland Avenue.
West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre said the park should make a nice addition to downtown Squamish.
"This park is a wonderful opportunity for a central gathering point for families, for special occasions and is a wonderful addition for the downtown core," she said. "I'm delighted that the provincial government can help communities out to make things like this possible."
Kirkham said the park should be a positive addition to Squamish.
"It's a real reflection of the great partnership we have with the provincial government," he said. "This park was needed to help support Downtown Squamish and I'm so happy to see so many young children braving the weather to enjoy the park today."
Work on the park began earlier this spring and was completed in late-October.
