'Day of Prayer' service planned

This evening (March 4) at 7 p.m., the World Day of Prayer service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2449 The Boulevard. The service this year was written by the Women of Chile.

Expert panellists and current information on important issues including the legal rights of older adults, the laws against elder abuse and the available community support is part of the Community Forum on Elder Abuse to be held at the Seniors Centre on Thursday (March 10) from 1 to 4:30 p.m. The afternoon includes the showing of the video "Finding a Future for Ellen." A panel presentation with questions and discussion groups is included in the forum. There is a sign-up sheet at the Seniors Centre or you can register by calling (604) 688-1927 or email [email protected].

Shrove Tuesday is March 8 and the annual Pancake Supper at St. John's Anglican Church on Diamond Road (behind London Drugs) will be held on that date at 5:30 p.m. The suggested minimum donation is $5 per person.

For the next three Thursdays starting on March 10 anyone interested in knitting ribbon scarves is invited to participate at the Seniors Centre at 1 p.m. with instructor Darlene Arnold. The yarn is for sale at the centre.

The monthly Acoustic Jam at the Brackendale Art Gallery will take place on the Sunday (March 6) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. when Rita Kyle gets the gang together for a fun night of music.

The next meeting of the Hilltop House Support Society will be held in the new (north) wing on Thursday (March 10) at 9:30 a.m.

It was with sadness that I learned of the passing of former Squamish resident Bev Gunn of Langley. Condolences to her husband Jim and family.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday (March 7) for an evening of bingo.
