It is a rare opportunity to learn about the history of the estuary with a presentation by our local estuary watchdog and historian, John Buchanan. This event takes place on Wednesday (July 21) at 7 p.m. in the Brackendale Art Gallery. During this evening at the gallery, there will be a short presentation on the society's current project including how people can get involved. If you are new to our community or wonder what the estuary is all about, this is a great opportunity to find out.

All non-profit organizations are invited to enjoy a free dinner at the Rock Bar and Grill (upstairs) at 9000 Valley Drive on Sunday (July 18) at 6 p.m. It is all part of the Service Appreciation Night that includes a chance to enter a draw to win $250 for the charity of your choice and $500 worth of catering for your next function.

The WOW Riders will cycle out through the Squamish Valley on Monday (July 19) with some of you starting from Canadian Tire at 9 a.m. and others may want to meet about 9:45 a.m. at the Hydro substation. This will be a longer than usual ride so pack something to eat. For more information, please call Shirley at 604-898-5715.

On Wednesday (July 21) the Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club. The Squamish Food Bank Christmas in July fundraiser raffle has many great prizes to offer. Tickets will be available from volunteers at Save-On-Foods and in front of the Liquor Store in the Garibaldi Mall tomorrow and Sunday (July 17 and 18).

If you are 50 years or older and have not yet joined the Squamish Seniors' Centre now is the perfect time in order to enjoy all the great events planned. Next week (July 19 to 22) is Casino Days with various casino type games and activities throughout the week.

On Wednesday (July 21) at 10 a.m. a hike to the Smoke Bluffs is planned. Meet at the Seniors' Centre at 10 a.m. for carpooling to the parking lot. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. This hike includes some stairs and should last approximately one hour. Pre-register by calling 604-848-6898. There is no fee for the hike but donations will be gratefully accepted towards the Centre. Also on July 21 there is a fun/friendly game of bingo (10 cents a card) starting at 1:30 p.m. Movies for members by donations features the film Casino Royale at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in keeping with the Casino Days theme.

On Thursday (July 22) at 1 p.m. learn to play the card game 2200 at the Senior Centre and at 2:30 p.m. the movie Oceans 11 will be shown.

The Over the Hill Hikers will be going to Whistler on Tuesday (July 20) at 9 a.m. for a Far side/Riverside hike. Members are asked to meet at Ross and Government Roads and if you need more information, please call Heather at 604-892-9003.

The birthday celebration at Hilltop House will be held on Wednesday (July 21) at 2 p.m. when Dennis Everett, Fern Gordon, Ernie Weiss, Erika Rogall and Stephen Rizun will be honoured.

A trip to the Edgewater Casino in downtown Vancouver is planned for seniors on Thursday (July 22) and it is your chance to walk, shop or gamble. The cutoff date is tomorrow (July 17). The Pacific National Exhibition is 100 years old this year and lots of special attractions and shows are planned. The seniors bus trip is planned for Thursday, August 26. The Tantalus Seniors' Walking Club will meet at Fisherman's entrance at the access to the Spit Dyke for a Swan Trail walk at 10 a.m. on Thursday (July 22). For anyone wishing more information, please call Joyce at 604-898-5594.

Children's author Kari-Lynn Winters will be visiting the Squamish Public Library on Tuesday (July 20) at 1 p.m. and she is hoping for a good turnout. Kari-Lynn is the author of "On my Walk" and "Jeffery and the Sloth".

Between Shifts Theatre has to vacate their present storage area at the Youth Centre as the centre is renovating the space into a music room. If you are able to assist with any space, please contact Kathy Daniels at [email protected].

The Rock Bar and Grill will be hosting a Chicken Wing Eating Competition at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (July 20) on their patio. Prize for most wings eaten in one minute is $100, and the prize for most hot wings eaten in one minute is $200. Must be over 19.
