Downtown gets ready to Rumble

400 riders expected to participate in Rumble to the Rock

Motorcycle engines will once again be roaring through the downtown during the fourth annual Rumble to the Rock, a joint event put together by Trev Deeley Motorcycles and the Squamish Classic Car Club.

This marks the second year the two groups have come together and Trev Deeley representative Guy Wilton said the pairing has been a great fit.

"They [Squamish Classic Car Club] had an event with the Show and Shine and we decided to work with them to combine the two events," he said. "Now it's a day that's perfect for people who like shiny things."

Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Trev Deeley location at 1875 Boundary Road. The contingent of bikers will leave at 11 a.m. and make their way to Squamish.

"It's just a beautiful ride," said Wilton. "With all of the improvements to the Sea to Sky highway it's a trip that a lot of our riders enjoy. We really love coming to Squamish, the people there are so nice and it's something we really look forward to."

The group plans to reach Pavilion Park around noon where the event's festivities will continue.

Wilton expects as many as 400 bikers to participate but he noted that the event is totally weather dependent.

"On a ride of this length, bad weather can dampen the enthusiasm literally," he said. "But we're hoping for a nice day so try to avoid making rain dances that week."

He also mentioned a new aspect to the event, which will feature a toy run. A number of bikers will be bringing toys along with them, similar to toy drives at Christmas, and donate them to local families in need.

The Squamish Classic Car Club will be holding a Show and Shine at the park, with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. There is a $20 fee to register and the cars will then be judged with a trophy presentation at 2 p.m.

Pavilion Park will also be hosting a barbecue, which is put on by Parkside Restauraunt.

Wilton said Parkside did a great job last year satisfying the healthy appetites of the many bikers taking part in the event.

The park will also be hosting live music throughout the day starting at noon.

There is no charge to take part in the Rumble to the Rock but Trev Deeley is accepting donations to help out Squamish youths living with cancer.

"Young people with serious diseases is such a hard situation for families," Wilton said.

"It's a tough challenge to go through and a very small token on our part to help them financially."

Wilton also shared that Trev Deeley is looking into having a demo day for motorcycles in Squamish to help build the interest in the activity here.
