Duck in a Truck lottery event will benefit Squamish youth

Squamish Rotary Club will be holding its annual Duck in a Truck lottery fundraising event on Aug. 2.

In support of the Youth Hub at the Sea to Sky Foundry, set to open in June of 2022, the Squamish Rotary Club will be holding its annual Duck in a Truck lottery fundraising event on Aug. 2.

One thousand lottery tickets are available for purchase; each is assigned to one of 1,000 numbered ducks that will be dumped out of a truck into the burling pond at the Loggers Sports grounds at 1 p.m. on Monday. Four blindfolded "duck pluckers'' will then pull out four winning ducks to distribute prizes of $5,000, $2,500, $1,500 and $500.

"Young people in our community need a safe space where they can not only meet up and have fun, but also find the help they desperately need — when they need it," stated the Rotary Club in a press release.

The Youth Hub at the Foundry will be a hang-out and recreational space open to all youth, part of the 5,000 square foot facility that will focus on mental health, counselling and primary care for Sea to Sky young people.

Due to its quickly increasing youth population (12 to 24 year olds), in 2020 Squamish was identified as a prime candidate for the Foundry province-wide initiative. Foundry Sea to Sky will be located on the ground floor of the Buckley Affordable Housing project next to Howe Sound Secondary.

Tickets for the lottery can be purchased from any Rotary Club member, or online at www.squamishrotary.com.
