It’s a new season and a new world of possibilities at the Sea to Sky Gondola.
The gondola is set to transform into a winter wonderland, with both Christmas and outdoor activities debuting starting on Thursday (Nov. 27).
“We’re really excited about this first winter and all of the opportunities there are to play above Squamish,” said Christy Allan, the director of sales and marketing for the gondola.
“We want to create traditions and want everyone to come to Squamish and see us as a winter destination.”
Holiday-themed events atop the gondola kick off on Friday (Nov. 28) with the Spirit of Christmas month-long celebration. A tree-lighting ceremony and fondue dinner will occur on Friday evening, and it’s the first in a handful of events highlighting the holiday season.
Children’s storytime at the gondola runs Fridays in December from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and local artisan events will be held every weekend. Santa Claus arrives at the gondola on Dec. 6 and 7 for photo opportunities and a pancake brunch.
The songs of Christmas are also set to be celebrated on Dec. 13 and 14, when a number of Squamish choirs will belt out a selection of holiday tunes on both days.
But it’s not just about Christmas activities; the gondola also wants Squamish to get outside during their holidays. Snowshoeing and tubing will be offered atop the gondola, and Allan said she’s excited about the new recreational opportunities that winter brings.
“I think once the snow starts flying, people are really going to enjoy snowshoeing on our trails,” she said.
“It’s for all different levels, with the panorama and spirit trails good for people learning and the trails beyond good for people more experienced.”
Snowshoes are available for rent, or users can bring their own. Allan also said children and families are going to love the tube park.
“It’s adjacent to the Wonderland trail and people can slide all day,” she said.
“It’s so close to the summit and offers easy access for everyone.”
The tube park offers four lanes of varying sliding levels and a $5 fee includes the ability to slide all day.
“We hope everyone gets up here and enjoys all we have to offer,” Allan said.
“There’s really something for everyone.”
The gondola is open for winter from Thursday to Sunday until Dec. 19, then it will be open every day until Jan. 4.
