Exciting activities at Railway Park

Hopefully, as you read this column, spring is finally coming to Squamish. We will be more than happy to see the snow gone and activities returning to normal at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. It has been a very long winter.

Hopefully, as you read this column, spring is finally coming to Squamish. We will be more than happy to see the snow gone and activities returning to normal at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park. It has been a very long winter.

March will be a month full of exciting activities, starting off with Wild at Art March 6 through March 15. As in past years, the fabulous art gallery will be located in the Heritage Park's historic PGE CarShop building. There will be a myriad of special activities throughout the event, with Saturday, March 14 a special heritage day with several entertainers and the great Brian Couture logging show.

Following on its heels will be spring break week - always a fun time as we welcome families to enjoy everything the park has to offer. After a long shutdown due the snow, we are working hard to have the very popular West Coast Mini Rail back in full operation. This has been the longest winter shut down of this great attraction since we first built the mini rail line way back in 1996.

Thomas the Tank Engine is coming back! Mark your calendars for a date in June as the famous cartoon-character locomotive returns for four days of family fun June 6 and 7 and June 13 and 14. The Heritage Park will again become a Day Out With Thomas theme park with a host of activities as well as a train ride with Thomas. Tickets are now on sale for this event through Ticketweb, costing just $20 for all day admission, including the ride and other activities. More information and access to tickets is available through our website www.wcra.org (click the blue "Thomas" tab) or call the Heritage Park at 604-898-9336 and we'll be happy to help you.

Meanwhile work continues on the construction of the new CN Roundhouse & Conference Centre, worth a visit itself to see the unique structure as it continues to be erected on the site. Come September, when the new facility opens, the Heritage Park will again be transformed in appearance and operation. Come and visit often.
