Feisty rufous hummingbird spotted in the Squamish Estuary (Video)

Local birder Chris Dale captures footage of a rufous hummingbird in the Squamish Estuary.

Local birder Chris Dale captured this footage of a rufous hummingbird in the Squamish Estuary.

According to All About Birds, a cool fact about this bird is that the oldest found was an almost nine-year-old female re-caught and re-released during banding operations in B.C.

This hummingbird is one of the feistiest, often beating out others of its species to get to feeders or flowers, according to All About Birds.

Earlier this year, there was a salmonella outbreak in B.C. and a call for folks to take away their backyard feeders to combat it.

The BC SPCA has recommended only putting out feeders in winter as birds can find their own food sources in the spring and summer.
