The ever-popular Fright Fest Nights runs at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park next Thursday through Sunday (Oct. 27 to 30) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night.
Climb aboard the Ghoul Express and also the Mummy Rail and ride through some ghostly haunts. Go in costume if you like and get in on the tricks and treats. Be sure to visit the Halloween Arts and Craft room and if you get hungry, the Beanery Café will be open. The general admission is $5 per person and $3 for members.
The Spirit of Squeamish is presented by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association and with a definite Halloween theme will include monologues from drama students, solo and group dances, pianists, singers and choirs. To put you in the mood for this ghoulish evening, wear your favourite Halloween costume. The producer of the show is Veronica McPhee and she invites everyone to the Eagle Eye Theatre on Friday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m. Remember, it is a fundraiser for the Access Music Education Fund and will benefit many students in our community. Admission is by donation.
Hey kids, you are invited to the Squamish Public Library on Friday (Oct. 28) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for the annual Get Spooked Night. Children aged six to 12 are welcome to this fun evening of scary ghost stories, a spooky scavenger hunt, a visit to the mad scientist's laboratory, a terrifying craft and to end the evening, some ghoulish snacks. On Wednesday (Oct. 26), the Seniors Wellness Fair will take place at the Seniors Centre at 1201 Village Green Way from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Remember to wear short sleeves and have your Care Card with you. Free tea, coffee and fruit will be available and the Clock Tower Café will have a Wellness Fair Special lunch for $6.75 for members and $7.76 for non-members. There will be a special area in front of the Seniors Centre for drivers to drop off passengers.
The next day, on Thursday (Oct. 27) plan on attending the Halloween Soup and Sandwich day at the Seniors Centre starting at noon.
A masquerade Rotten Sock Hop Halloween event is planned at the Squamish Valley Golf Club on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 7 p.m. to midnight. This is a fundraiser for a Wheelchair for Betty Campaign, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and for the Squamish Relay for Life team The Mama Bears for the Canadian Cancer Society. Attend in costume (prizes to be won) and the price is $5 and with no costume it is $10 each. The night includes a Drunkin' Pumpkin' loonie toss, 50/50 spider spin and a witches' not-so-silent auction. Take the kids along, as there will be a separate child's activity room upstairs with certified babysitters for $2 per child. Space is limited, so book early. Tickets are available at the golf course, Gelato Carina and Glacier Interiors.
The District of Squamish and the Squamish Seniors Centre Society are hosting the 2011 Senior Citizens Christmas Banquet on Friday, Dec. 2, at the centre. Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 1 and will only be available on the centre at $15 per person and cash only please.

The Re-Use-It Fair is also tomorrow (Oct. 22) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the Adventure Centre. Start the day off with a pancake breakfast served up by the Squamish Lions Club starting at 9 a.m. Take your usable items such as furniture, electronics, bikes, toys etc and choose an item or two you would like for free. There is live music and for the kids, the popular face painting and colouring contest.
There is a Kids Toy and Clothing sale at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow (Oct. 22).

There are many appointments available by calling toll free to 1-800-663-9203. Regular screening mammograms for women ages 40 to 79 is one of the best ways to monitor breast health.
Raffle tickets for the Christmas bazaar sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary to the Squamish General Hospital will be on sale at Nesters Food Market today and tomorrow (Oct. 21 and 22).
