Halloween fun for the whole family

On Sunday (Oct. 31), put your favourite costume on for the Halloween skate at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre from noon to 2:20 p.m. A Halloween swim is also planned on that day from 2 to 4 p.m. and should be a lot of fun.

There is still time to take the gang to the "Fright Fest Nights" at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park as its final two nights are tonight (Oct. 29) and Saturday (Oct. 30) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Get in the Halloween mood as you board the "Ghoul Express" and then do some trick and treating at the Brightbill House.

Keeping with the Halloween theme, kids ages six to 12 years are invited to the Squamish Public Library tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for a fun evening including games, stories and snacks.

The screening mammography program mobile unit will be in Squamish from Monday (Nov. 22) to Thursday (Dec. 2) and the new location will be The Squamish Renaissance at 38225 Third Avenue. A burger and beer fundraiser is being held at the Grizzly Pub Saturday (Nov. 6) from 6 to 9 p.m. for the Don Ross Outdoor Leadership Program on. For $10 you get a beer and burger. The night includes a silent auction, 50/50 draw and a chance to watch the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings hockey game. Tickets will be available at the door.

The Squamish Valley Quilters Guild is having a Social Sew Day on Wednesday (Nov. 3) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the conference room (upstairs) at the Mountain Retreat Hotel. New members are invited ($5 charge) and if you wish, take a lunch along. The monthly meeting will be held in the same location at 6:45 p.m. For more information, please call 604-898-9240.

The Over the Hill Hikers will meet on Tuesday (Nov. 2) at 9 a.m. at the parking lot off the Mamquam Forestry Service Road for a hike to the Birds of Prey. For more information regarding this group, please call Heather at 604-892-9003.

Tomorrow evening (Oct. 30) at 8 p.m., the popular Paperboys will be in concert at the Brackendale Art Gallery. The evening includes a Halloween dance and it is hoped everyone will be in costume. Tickets are $20 each and available at the Gallery and at The Bookshelf.

The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (Nov. 3) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

The Women on Wheels (WOW) have had a successful season with their interesting rides each week and on Monday (Nov. 2) at 10 a.m., their last ride for this year will start off from Canadian Tire.

Today (Oct. 29) is your last day to bid on the many great items available in the silent auction at the Scotia Bank. This is a fundraiser for the Squamish Hospice Society and your support would be much appreciated.

The next Quest University faculty speaker series will be held at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday (Nov. 4) at 7 p.m. when Ryan Derby-Talbot will speak on Infinity: "Comprehending the Incomprehensible."

An arthritis and exercise information session will be held at the Seniors Centre on Monday (Nov. 8) starting at 1 p.m. For anyone who was in the quilting classes in the September and October, there are drop-in sessions on Tuesdays (Nov. 2, 9 and 16) starting at 10 a.m. The Mature Drivers workshop will be held at the Centre on Wednesday (Nov. 3) at 2:30 p.m.

Calling all crafters and vendors! The Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School is holding their annual Christmas Craft Fair and bake sale on Thursday (Dec. 2) from 5 to 8 p.m. To book your table, please contact the school at 604-898-3688. Tables are $25 up to Nov. 5 and $30 after that date.

The last weekend the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital is selling tickets on their raffle is this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 30 and 31) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Save on Foods. Tickets will still be available at the Gift Shop at the Hospital and also from members. The Christmas Bazaar is set for Saturday (Nov. 13) at the Squamish United Church.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters are holding a Pub Night at the Watershed Grill in Brackendale on Wednesday (Nov. 10) from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The evening includes dinner, drink specials, free appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 is holding another bingo night on Monday (Nov. 1) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Free flu clinic dates will be held at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Nov. 3, 5, 8, 10, 17 and 19 at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre from 3 to 6 p.m. Take your BC Care card along and for your convenience, wear short sleeves.

We members all wish our co-leader Darleen Arnold a speedy recovery after she suffered a fractured hip while out walking with us a couple of weeks ago.
