Hart bringing 'Ra Energy' to B.C.

Squamish resident's new line of food arriving in grocery stores

The brainchild of Squamish's Adam Hart will soon hit the shelves in grocery stores across the province.

Hart said he's excited to see his brand new Ra Energy line of food products launch at Overwaitea food group grocery stores this month and told The Chief it's all about health and convenience.

"The brand is basically about helping to make it easy for people to eat healthy," he said. "These are ideas that give us a day's worth of nutrients in a bite-sized amount."

His first product in stores will be a seed mixture that users can add to foods like cereal, yogurt, salad and other vegetables. Hart said it's a unique product because of its easy to use design and hemp-based mixture.

"It's sold as a shaker," he said. "And it's primarily hemp-based, which no other products like this have. Hemp is great because of its protein content and all the great essential fatty acids it has. The mixture also has unhulled sesame, which has a high concentration of iron and calcium and the sprouted buckwheat in the mixture makes it very easy to digest."

Hart said the intent of the line of products is to make snacking easier and more healthy. The packaging recommends three tablespoons a day and it can easily be added to anything you eat. It's available in a pouch and shaker and comes in three flavours: plain, naturally sweetened and garlic.

"This isn't a hippie food - it's for the everyday person who wants a little more energy," he said.

The Squamish resident started his Power of Food company back in 2003 and based it on educating as many people as possible about how easily one can feel better by adding in nutrient-rich foods without having to overhaul their lifestyles. From there, he started doing 300 to 400 presentations over a seven-year span about nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.

Hart then wrote a book that was published in 2010 entitled The Power of Food. The book became a bestseller on Amazon and Hart said people wanted more information from him.

"After the book came out, people started asking for the food I talked about in the book," he said. "They told me to start feeding them the food you keep talking about and we'll follow you to the end of the world."

For the past five years, Hart has been looking for an ideal partner with whom to work on the food products.

"I kept approaching different food companies with my ideas and eventually I teamed up with a great company that I now have a beautiful relationship with," he said.

Hart said there will also be demos on the product at select grocery stores, including Save-On-Foods in Squamish. The product will be available at all 125 Overwaitea stores in B.C., with plans to expand to the east coast of Canada and the United States in the future.
