Howe Sound's Windy Tale: the 'battle' of the flags

Have you seen the flags at Furry Creek?

Have you ever looked at the Canadian and B.C. flags on Howe Sound at Oliver's Landing in Furry Creek and wondered how often they are replaced?

The wind is so strong on Howe Sound that the flags are pretty battered around.

The flags at Oliver's Landing viewing deck are managed by the Oliver's Landing Boat and Kayak Club and replaced every other year or when needed, according to Brian Moorhead, area resident, trail builder and vice-chair of the Squamish Access Society.

The Canadian flag at the Furry Creek Beach and Rec Area was installed last year by Moorhead and funded by the Furry Creek Community Association.

Moorhead donated the flag pole.

He imagines the flag will be replaced on that pole yearly.
