Looking for something to do with the kids that combines snow and a little magic, but isn’t an expensive day skiing?
This might just be the family-friendly event to take in.
A world of ice sculptures is coming to the Whistler Golf Club starting on Saturday.
A team of 20 carvers is currently busy creating 50 snow sculptures, a snow maze and a children’s slide as part of Ice Kingdom, said Shari Burnett, public relations and marketing manager for Whistler.
At 40,000 square feet, Ice Kingdom is the province’s largest-ever snow and ice sculpture exhibit, according to organizers.
Each sculpture takes up to a week to create, with the very fine detailing done 24-48 hours before the gates open, Burnett added.
The sculptures adhere to three themes: fantasy, winter sports and wilderness.
And when darkness falls, the sculptures will be lit up.
Hot chocolate, bubble tea and snacks will also be available from Whistler vendors.
“The brainchild of master carver David Xu Rui, Ice Kingdom celebrates a 300-year-old Chinese tradition of friends and family gathering to create sculptures out of snow and ice,” according to a news release from the organizers.
A licensed bar is also available for adults inside the Whistler Golf Clubhouse.
The sculptures will be up from Feb. 3rd to March 31. Tickets can be bought at icekingdom.ca.
