The Squamish Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) wants to improve your mental acumen. And they’re bringing in one of North America’s leading mental coaches to Squamish for that purpose.

Dr. Saul L. Miller is coming to town on Saturday (Sept. 13) to speak at an event
at Brennan Park Recreation Centre on mental toughness.

Miller possesses a PhD in clinical psychology and has worked with sports teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, CFL, MLB, PGA tour golfers and Olympians. Some of his business clients include Nike, Kraft, Honda and Visa, to name a few.

“His work is performance enhancing and helping athletes to excel under pressure,” said the SMHA’s Tim Knight in an email. “Dr. Miller consults primarily in the areas of focus, emotional control, mental preparation, attitude and team building.”

He has also written eight books on the subject and specializes in the areas of team building and dealing with pressure, stress and change.

“The presentation applies to all ages of players, parents, coaches, executive members, referees and sporting associations such as SORCA, Squamish Minor Baseball, Squamish Youth Soccer and anybody else that requires mental toughness to excel as a human being,” said the Knight.

The talk is $10 at the door, or free for SMHA members. It all gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday inside the Brennan Park auditorium. For more info on the SMHA, visit www.squamishminorhockey.com.
